Signs and symptoms appear 3-6 days after the bite. Sudden onset of fever, severe headache, muscle aches, and vomiting. Most patients improve within days. In roughly 15% of cases the disease progresses to a toxic phase, with jaundice and haemorrhage. Mortality at this stage is 20–50%.
Live attenuated vaccines induce immunity in >95% of vaccinees within 10 days. Most travellers need only a single lifetime dose. Booster may be applicable in certain circumstances; pharmacist advice at appointment.
Common side effects include headache, mild fever, and injection site soreness that go away in a week. YEL-AND and YEL-AVD are uncommon but dangerous; patients 60 years of age and older are much more at risk. Before each dose, an eligibility assessment is required.
Most healthy adults and children from nine months can receive Stamaril; a full eligibility assessment is required before every dose.
The ICVP is the only official proof of vaccination accepted at borders; GP letters or pharmacy receipts are not accepted. You will receive your stamped certificate at your appointment, which becomes valid 10 days after your injection.
